Shot engine.

My dad finally manage to destroy the engine of the gmc in my sig. The engine overheated a few times over a period of a year. The oil was thicker than honey, and some of it came out in clumps when drained. Oil was in for about 5-6 months with at least 12k miles on it. The truck was repeatedly run hard with a trailer behind it during cold starts. The engine starts sometimes, but then seizes. When it does run it spits out tons of black smoke and makes all kinds of loud knocking noises. The oil galleries were obviously blocked and the bearings are obviously fried, and now the engine is in the process of getting replaced. Judging by the look of the oil fill hole and the oil itself, am I not surprised. Hopefully I can get a sample of the oil analyzed.

It's a shame really, only 167k on a diesel.

What sort of oil change interval did he use? Rotella T6 is a good oil, but nothing can deal with too long an OCI or coolant contamination.

True from what I've read; however it should at least go further than 167k!!

Possible coolant contamination? I think those were known to crack cylinder heads

Maybe around 10k intervals. The Rotella was in only for the last oil change. I don't know about the contamination, and I won't know until we get the oil analyzed. The oil was not at all milky, however, coolant loss was crazy high. Hopefully I can get a look when the mechanic breaks it down, and I will take as many pics as possible.
