When you say your engine barely reaches normal operating temperature, you must mean your coolant gauge barely reaches "normal". Your oil/block/etc. isn't getting up to full operating temp.
In this case, Synthetic would be a waste. I agree with those that say non-synthetic and follow your oil life monitor recommendation.
