In the market for a new shop vacuum for the garage at home. What are you guys using?

Craftsman 5-gallon.
I looked at a Stihl SE61 the other day. Very quiet, you could talk right next to it. It's a wet-dry vac, it doesn't tip when you pull on the hose. Very nice machine.
I have had bad luck with electric motors dying in Shop-Vac brand vacuums. It's too bad, since they're still US-made.
Currently I have a Craftsman, which is the same as Rigid. It's from China, but it's extraordinarily well designed. It has an extra set of impeller blades for cooling the electric motor, rather than depending on the canister suck-through air. Hence it won't overheat if the filter or tube get clogged.
On the other hand, Big Lots always has Shop-Vacs for cheap, so you could get them there and treat them as disposable when the motor dies.

I have to say that the Craftsman shop vac quality today is no where as good as it used to be.
My wife bought me a 5 gallon Craftsman shop vac in 1980. I have abused it worse than anything I have ever owned. It went thru two home constructions, heavy duty weekly use, and I even use in on my sandblast cabinet.....and it works great.
I bought a second Craftsman 5 gallon vacuum for the garage about 5 years ago....it only lasted 3 years before the motor burned out........

Ridgid no question. Awesome warranty, great product. I picked up one of those blue shop vacs from lowes after thanksgiving. What a piece of garbage that is. Ridgid is the only brand on my list in terms of price and performance for shop vac's.

Ridgid has been the best of the >$200 vacs I've used.
