I don't understand how some things get past QC.
The vendor needs to see things like this to hold those accountable and improve quality.
Things this bad get past QC because QC isn't looking. In all reality the thing will likely function perfectly.
It just looks sloppy.
This is why visual standards are created.
That's rough.

I agree for the most part except for any loose bits located on the downstream side of the filter.
Thus far there's zero indication from OP that that is a concern here.
It's right there in the photos!?
I won't make excuses for them but I'll tell you our reality in our automotive aftermarket plant in California. We are balls to the walls busy, largest backorders in our history. We have over 20 temps to hire at the moment and we still have openings for another 20 if we could get them. No one wants to work. It's hard to train people to jump right in no matter how simple you try to make it. We are struggling with QC too.
Yeah there are little rubber/silicone pieces all over the downstream side of the filter. Didn’t focus on them in the photos.
Bought an aFe to compare (wanted to confirm fitment) and it’s looking much better...

Some members here really dislike K&N air filters. Looking at older and newer threads suggests to me that those filters aren't made as well as they used to be. We have also discussed K&N oil filters being made cheaper overseas and suffering quality problems as a result.
So if K&N owns AEM, why wouldn't AEM have quality problems as well? Maybe the photos in the OP are typical now.
