Just purchased a 2005 Toyota Avalon with 148k miles in mint condition. 3.5L V6. Lots of general maintenance done in the last two years. Want to get it cleaned up as much as I can internally so I know I’m working with a clean(er) slate, so to speak.

If you had an extra $20 would your next move be a full tank of Shell V-Power or a fuel additive such as Redline, Techron, Gumout (Regane) etc?

Had a company vehicle the last 6+ years. No longer work for said company. Trying to maintain my “new to me” vehicle as long as possible.

Both.

No need to waste money on additives if it's running fine. Was this a grandma car? An Italian tune up is all it needs.
Older 85 year old man owned it. Even gave me a service log. And all flushes and maintenance was done at the Toyota dealer.

Runs smooth and gets good MPG. It sat the last two years racking up a total of 4,000 miles since 2022.

I‘d say two tanks of techron treated gas first just to make sure valves and injectors are clean, then oil change, then toptier gas with whatever octane it suppose to run.
V-power does provide more detergent then regular TopTier, but techron would still have much more. High octane gas does little if engine is not designed to run on it.

I would NOT put techron or regaine in anything anymore - always had problems never had improvements.

Maybe it was overtreament, but techron gave my Nissan a long crank just one day after install that never went way.

Quality Top tier like Exxon and ... V power ain't no golden miracle.

Never heard of that happening ? I always add Tecron about every 5,000 miles even though I use top tier regular octane gas . In between I will run TC-W3 at about 9:60 to 1 ratio for UCL and cleaner . Sorry to hear your troubles .
