Shell Ultra 5W40 vs Liqui Moly Leichtlauf High Tech 5W40

where did you get your info about shell one? i found 2 pds ,one back from 2018 sn version and one from 2024 sp version and both say -36.

Sorry, my mistake. I confused it with PPE 5W40.
But, I would bet money that PPE and Ultra are the same oils and that SHell, which is notoriously clumsy in updating pds, did not update it. PPE 5W40 was also at one point -36 but they updated it. I think when it was -36c, they had an issue with the GTL supply. GTL has generally low pour point.

Shell Ultra will be around 3.8.

yes...we dont know what LM hths is..but its a very known oil with good approvals and one of the most recognisable and selling oils of the brand, no complains ever ,so i guess its is around the 3.6-3.8 too.

as much as i wanted to like shell oils and this one particularly one of the most selling oils in Europe and value for money here a the land of expensive oils ,and with NOACK of 5.7% and hths 3.8, this happened to my engine also:

i guess sometimes some oils interact not so good with some engines and some good specs on paper ,like noack ,mean nothing in reality.

IDK, I used PPE 5W40 on track etc. no any more usage than any other oil.
GTL in general has higher HTHS. I think someone here got email from SOPUS when inquiring about HTHS, that it was 3.8. I know first version of GTL PPE 5W40 had on pds 3.88cP.

I have also noticed changing back and forth with different brands can contribute to engine oil consumption. With this case it did later. Since engine started consuming M1 0w-40 oil the first oci. Also the Shell oil was the api sn version. Next week i will be changing to SHU api SP version.

i confim that 3.8,i found its hths in an oilclub forum. but i searched every oil forum and there is no hths for that LM.

that is an opinion that i have heard it a lot ..but since i got here ,this opinion was not only not confirmed by anyone, but in fact all members like edyvw above never had a consumption problem and they change oil brands and grades in every OCI.

BMW always used 05.-0.7ltr in 5k mile OCI. Any oil. But so far I can’t see any usage of 300V.

yes this is normal, but with that shell i had more .double that. dont know why.twice..my engine doesnt like that oil... just like your engine likes 300 v !
interesting that with 300v. how many km have it in so far?

I have maybe 3800km. No sign of usage.
• Reduced oil consumption: Low oil volatility and evaporation helps to control oil consumption
from motul's description about 300 v properties.
esters do that.

questions:
1) do you track it at all or the use is normally, going to work, drop kids a school, short trips?
2) hths is 4.0 do you feel any difference in horsepower fuel consumption e.t.c compared to that 3.8 of xcess gen 2 you previously used ?
3) since its a racing car and i dont track of any kind can i use it for street use for an OCI or 2?(i explain the reason next) if yes ,how long should i keep it in engine?

address to everyone. i dont track the car. mainly short trips and a long trip once-twice a month high rpm. i have a normal consumption for a bmw ,1lt/3500km at 155.000km according to bmw. but i know thats not normal since it happened all of a sudden.could be piston rings or stem seals. but a friend of mine consulted me to use an ester oil to reduce perhaps consumption.

i am thinking to try this one, i dont know any other cheaper one with full esters. power 5-40 seems to contain some esters but mostly PAO.he said i need a high viscosity oil with low noack and high flash point preferable ester based, bcs. of its cleaning properties.

is it ok, if i try this one? i am asking bcs. its a race oil.but could i take advantage of these beneficial properties to see if it works for my engine?

This is my daily that previously I regularly tracked but not anymore. I just don’t have time.
So yeah, it does all the stuff:work, kids, etc.
I know what Motul says. They said that for older version that had more edter, but engine used some. This is new version that has more PAO and it is more “streetable.”
I use it bcs. I got it for free. I wouldn’t pay for it to use it. There are more appropriate oils for street use. I might do one track day soon if I find time.
Edit: I really didn’t pay attention on power. It is NA engine. I found it harder to notice it on NA engines than turbo. I definitely noticed on turbo engines before when I made a jump in HTHS. For example, when Mobil1 0W40 had HTHS 3.8, there was a difference in my VW CC 2.0T going from Castrol Edge 0W30.

it has more PAO.. sad..i need one with full esters to clean engine a bit ,thats why i want to use it more.i know in today oils there isnt such a thing like full ester but i was hoping to be the one that has traditionally a large quantity of it.

is there a more "full ester" than that to use for that purpose?
