Hi

I have found this oil new oil has been added to Helix Ultra lineup in Australia. The marketing hype and spec's are below.

Would this be ok to use in the Buick V6 3800 eoctec engine. ACEA mentions to use C2 and C3 oils with caution.

Applications
Naturally aspirated, fuel injected, turbocharged, intercooled and multivalve passenger car gasoline and Diesel engines approving the use of a 5W-30.

Specifically intended for the latest Mercedes Benz, VW and BMW Diesel engines fitted with exhaust after treatment and also suitable for older Diesel engines requiring a 5W-30 viscosity. As the product meets ACEA C2/C3 it is suitable for both PSA and Renault service fill.

Looks like a really good oil. You could use it with no problems at all IMO.

Any oil that sports that many Euro numbers has to jump through some impressive hoops.

From real genius:

Chris Knight: So, if there's anything I can do for you, or, more to the point, to you, you just let me know.
Susan: Can you hammer a six-inch spike through a board with your *****?
Chris Knight: Not right now.
Susan: A girl's gotta have her standards.

What is a 'Buick V-6 3800 ecotec engine' - is that a new Ecotec engine, based on the old 3800 availiable in Australia?

Sounds like a cool engine!

Hi

This is the old L36 engine modified Buick 3800 Ecotec for GMH Holden brand in Australia it’s the 1995/1996 model.

The reason I have asked about the C2 and C3 ratings is the reduction of the sulphur and potassium in this oil as it’s a low SAPS and get the views of this board on it could affect the engine/tappet wear long term.

You just cant go past Shells XHVI base oils. Then the additives, which i think they may share with Mobil and Pennzoil influence, top class. The only think holding me back is the 5W30 and the c2/C3 rating. I think the c2/c3 is one rating that is very specific to the newer engines, which i hope someone on here will explain some more on. It also retails for something like $80+ at Repco.

C- Catalyst compatible oils

C1, C2, C3 and C4

For use in high performance car and light commercial petrol and diesel engines, with diesel particulate filter, three-way catalyst and / or requiring low viscosity, low friction, catalyst compatible oils.

The 5W40 is probably the lowest you would go for the v6 ecotec.
