Shell motor oil is on sale at my local auto part store for 1.08 per quart. My car has 98k on it and i've mostly been using pennzoil oil and filters for the last 2 or 3 yrs. Would this be a serious down-grade or is shell a decent oil? My oci are usually 3-3.5k. Great forum and i'm hoping to learn alot more

You'll learn real soon that Pennzoil & Havoline gets higher marks here than Shell oils for gasoline vehicles. Citgo, Super Tech and Trop-Arctic get the most thumbs up here for oils in your $1.08 price range. That's a very good price for Shell. The synthetic Shell Rotella interests me for shorter, 5K OCIs I'll be embarking on with an older vehicle I own.

to BITOG.

The Formula Shell 10W30 is a good oil that would do a very good job for your application and change intervals. It is made with a Group II base stock and uses a Shell Chemical additive package.

SOPUS markets Shell, Pennzoil, Quaker State, and Wolf's Head. All are good. Pennzoil is the top tier product.

Pennzoil filters are typically made by Fram and are a basic Fram filter in the USA.

Thanks for the reply's guys. I guess i'll give the shell a try and hopefully a uoa will follow. Car calls for 3 7/10 quarts, but i assume i won't be having a problem if i dump 4 quarts in there....i hope
