Servicing Amsoil EA Air Filter

The recommendation to clean the Amsoil EA Filter is 25,000 miles or 1 year, and replace after 100,000 miles or 4 years. Does the time frame actually matter? I can see how oil filter and oil would have a time frame due to acids and combustion by-products that can damage the filter media and such.

Or was the recommendation really just made to coincide with Amsoil's oil drain intervals? I ask because I probably won't get 12,000 miles in one year, and I don't see why it'd be necessary to clean the filter if it's not dirty.

I'm sure it's more of a "one size fits all" recommendation than anything. Some really nasty environments with high use probably will need replacement sooner. "Clean" low mile drive on the local highway the filter may still be in great shape.

It's a tough nut, obviously if MPG drops off (and cleaning doesn't help) or there is obvious degradation, then it's time for new, regardless of years/miles.

Thanks Pablo, I'll just keep a check on it and if it looks like it's getting rather dirty, then I'll clean it. I'll change it after 4 cleanings, since that is what the instructions implied, or, as you said, when degradation is obvious.

These filters were tested for over 1 million miles, I really don't think it would hurt if you cleaned them every 6 months, if that was your choice, this is especially true if you live in dusty or higher pollen/pollution environments.

You can save fuel economy by keeping a clean air filter. I would probably get rid of the filter after 4 years regardless.
