On a few of my irrigation valves, I have minor leaking either where the valve meets it's adapter or where the adapter meets the pvc pipe.

Looking at the options, I'm wondering whether self fusing silicone tape could be used.

Has anybody used this for something similar and can you recommend a particular brand and retailer?

I don't think the self fusing silicon tape would work to stop a leak under pressure. It's stretchy, rubbery, I suspect the water would force itself out from under the tape. If you could get some pressure on the tape, for instance put a hose clamp over it, then it might work. Just my 2 cents.

I'm a believer. Had a leaking kitchen faucet at the base of of the spigot. Hard to describe - a plastic collar had split. I took the piece to Home Depot and a plumbing guy said it was not a part they would carry. Choices were replacing the faucet or try this blue silicone tape. Couple of wraps, slide the cover back on and it hasn't leaked in 6 months. Under $10.
