Agree with this. If you're not burning oil, get Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 0W-40.
In this situation do you agree the old guard is the better lube?

I'm still forming an opinion on this.None of my cars burn oil.

I don't personally put a lot of stock in that. A lot of people note that Mobil 1 makes their engine louder, but it's a great oil, and many here have run it without issues for decades. But FWIW, many here seem to swear that Valvoline Restore and Protect makes their quieter than anything else. I feel like I can't even hear the engines idling at a stoplight. My Foxbody seemed like a different animal on it.
Quiet AF...
I bought the car in 2005.I don't personally put a lot of stock in that. Awesome reply.I'm still forming an opinion on this.
On one hand, you have Valvoline Restore and Protect which will essentially guarantee a spotless engine and zero piston ring deposits. Additionally, engines don't really fail from wear; they fail from deposits. So for those reasons, Valvoline Restore and Protect is compelling. However, besides the secret ingredient, it appears to be a fairly bland API spec oil. (But, that is likely all 99.9% of us will need.) On the other hand, the Euro oils are such good oils to meet the demanding approvals, so, even without secret ingredient, you will get a clean engine. (Should get...there have been some Audi/VW engines that have been terrible oil burners even with on-time oil changes with approved oils—that Valvoline Restore and Protect resolved the oil burning on.)
So, I see arguments for both. But I would still feel safest running Valvoline Restore and Protect. I just don't see what you gain by running something else. Hypothetically less wear that you probably couldn't even detect in 500,000 miles? Maybe a longer drain, but I won't run more than 5000 miles so I don't consider that. I still keep an open mind though. I could be swayed by a compelling argument.
If I could only give 3 thumbs up, instead of one.Not being a bastion of empathy and compassion I see this as a bit too idyllic. Somebody with a platform who seeks to inform doesn't get a free pass on ignorance; doesn't have the luxury of demonstrating their investment in Dunning-Kruger just because "feelings might get hurt", that's one of the biggest problems in the West right now, our capitulation to the whining of every over-sensitive self-identifying progressive whose life is a perpetual boxing match with Casper and Jacob Marley.
If you have a platform, it is your responsibility to be informed on what you are discussing, and if you aren't, and you get flamed, that's your fault for putting yourself in that position. We have lost our ability to have civil debate in the West because nobody, especially those who claim, unironically, to be the most tolerant, can in fact tolerate opposing views. They burn down cities and shoot people in the throat, while their social media profiles say "Caring, compassionate, BLM, pro-tolerance, #blessed!".
In a local FB group the other day where there was a B&E, I saw one woman, dead serious, say "I'm sure he was just trying to get warm, it's getting cold out there now", just completely dismissing the fact that this guy broke into somebody else's space. So steeped in Western progressive ideology that she is completely blinded by suicidal empathy.
Sorry for the rant, but I don't believe that anybody who has chosen to be ignorant on a subject, particularly someone with a large platform, is entitled to nothing but kindness and tolerance. They should be open to correction or at least debate, and that should ideally be done politely (IE, not calling them a moron) if possible, and then they should share their more informed position at the next opportunity, but if they DO get flamed; if that correction is not delivered politely, that doesn't make it any less valid. If you are informing an audience, it is your responsibility to be able to substantiate your claims and positions and if you can't, you probably shouldn't be making the sorts of unsubstantiated claims that result in that pushback, amateur or not.
Are you saying that since you ran Mobil 1 10W-30 for 20 years and don't burn oil then that's the proof it's good? Or that you switched to 0W-40 and it's quieter so it's better? I'm not quite following.I bought the car in 2005.
I've run Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 10w30 from then until the last oil change.
I drive the car 6 months a year.
Every red light is an event. It sees 1-2-3's to redline every time it's out. A few hours usually.
0W-40 made it silent.
The proof is in the pudding...
I agree that it's compelling to use an oil that will service a Ferrari quite well. But most of us aren't putting the demands on an oil like a Ferrari does. The headroom feels nice though.Awesome reply.
GT3's and 'Pista's don't come with ILSAC oils in the sump though.
If approvals are the benchmark then the decision is easy.
Dirty engine go Valvoline Restore and Protect and enjoy the party. Don't look back.
Mobil 1 0W-40 will be my forever elixir for my own reasons.
