I have a 5 Gallon Air Pig and I replaced the the valve assembly with an all brass one after the the red plastic tap handle on the original broke.
Problem now though is it leaks at the fitting. I am using teflon tape on the threads. The original fitting had a dark gray cement looking sealant on the threads. It seemed a hard set clay.
Any suggestions?
I fill it to about 110 PSI tops.

Make sure the threads are clean. White vinegar may do it, though you can work up to acetone.
Are you using basic/general purpose white PTFE tape?

Yes just plain plumbing tape PTFE.
I've reassembled it twice each time using another wrap/layer of PTFE.

Yeah, definitely clean everything well and use a better sealant (not thin tape). A little tube of RectorSeal is like $3 at Lowes.

I had a new faucet leak after I installed it.

I was only using Sealing Paste.
The Plumber at Home Depot told me to use Sealing Paste along with Teflon Tape.
Worked like a charm.

The Teflon Tape I use for plumbing is what's sold for Natural Gas fittings.
I believe the 'gas' tape is just thicker.

Thanks guys.
I headed out to the local HD and showed him the notes I'd taken from BITOG (he had never heard of site) he said the gasfitter guys use Megaloc Multi-Purpose Thread Sealant. In a tube, $3. CDN. out the door.

Weather will get a little warmer soon and I'm at it.

Have a Great Day.
