If you are having seal problems, I recommend you run an Auto-Rx regimen or two in your engine. As long as your seals are not torn or otherwise damaged, ARX will stop the leaks.
I had a rear main seal leak in my '83 F250, and several hundred miles into the ARX cleaning phase, it stopped. My lead mechanic was convinced we'd have to drop the trans and replace the main seal.
Since the start of GP II and GP III most quality motor oils have to have some ester to help with seal swell and in some cases additive solubility
when GP II and III oils used in API SM seal swell esters will become more the norm.
