Scratching my head over this snake oil.

He bought a four pack or something......I told him not to buy it. I wouldn't use it but it sure did something.
You mentioned that you guys changed the oil. I think that's what actually did something. Just out of curiosity, what kind of filter and oil did you use, and what was on there previously?

You know a lot of people think every engine additive is snake oil it's a favorite term around here.

I will say though about a year ago I put this same stuff in my crown Vic which had the tensioner noise for the first several seconds of startup pretty common on these. It is now literally gone 👀 put it in our Mazda last oil change and haven't noticed much other than very cold startups are much smoother.

Not sure what is all in the stuff but seems to be helping some specific things in my vehicles FWIW

We used an OE Toyota filter and the PP, and took a Wix off. The PP was in there for several hundred miles at the time the additive was put in.

"Overheated with leaking radiator" sounds like it blew a head gasket OR got lucky and blew radiator not HG or heads.. yet this is oil product and you say it stopped a ticking.

It is very thick, or thin like water? Bottle looks like it is thin.

Maybe it really did free up a lifter.. like MMO, Seafoam, your favorite solvent would do.

It's the Nano Diamond technology, man. "Soaks into metal!"
I'm going with freed up lifter as well.

There is some incorrect information in this thread.
1. The 2008 Tacoma came with the 1GR-FE 4.0L V/6 engine.
2. This engine has hydraulic lash adjusters on the pivot side of the rocker arms (early versions of this engine did not).
If any of the lash adjusters are stuck in their bores or the oil feed to them is blocked/restricted, the engine will make a noticeably loud racket.

Not to start a pissing match here but I've never seen a "rocker arm" on a 1GR engine. They have a "bucket" design where the cam lobe rides directly above the valve and directly pushes the valve down via the bucket lash adjuster.
This is an image of a later model (12'-15') 1GR cylinder head. No rockers.
