Santa Monica is in trouble

It doesn’t help malls are dying quickly as well….

Part of that is the cost of living in Cali…… 250k homes here would be million dollar homes there.

Seems the state lacks shelters for people to live in, and mental health services for people to hopefully get better.

I can’t blame “other” stuff here. I see an increase of homeless people here- even though though worse times here there were fewer homeless people.

There is no one issue to point at- greed, divide, and lack of services are just the start.

I can only hope and pray these people can be helped.

They need to tighten down the laws again….sometimes folks need to go to jail. Otherwise they never learn…..
It's complicated. SCOTUS has ruled that it's illegal to punish someone for being homeless and on public property. The solution is private property. Then it becomes trespassing.

SCOTUS ruled that homeless people do NOT have the right to sleep where ever they want in public. That means it's green light to relocate them away from places like the 3rd street Promenade in Santa Monica.

There is a new ballot proposition in CA to repeal Prop 47. That was the worst thing ever for CA, and allowed tons of crooks to stay out of prison.

George Gascon, LA County district attorney, is also up for reelection. That guy is a huge part of the problem in So Calif; he won't prosecute misdemeanor crimes - there are 13,000 unprosecuted cases in the backlog. For anyone here living in LA County, please vote this clown out of office.

If you want a daily dose of it, follow @enuffisenuffla on X. Seriously out of hand fentanyl deaths.

With respect to SM, they recently complained they’re a terminus for the LA Metro “light” rail. When they have the last run of the night between 1 and 2 dozen new homeless get kicked off the train and into their city. Every single night. They can’t take it.
Long Beach claims the same thing, for the same reason.

Hmm, I would not have thought of that - but its a good reason not to live at the end of a light rail line.

I refuse to click on the video. But if I understand the title correctly- those of us actually from the state know this is 20 to 30 year old news/ situation.
I was there once only and about 18 years ago, one glance was enough to come to same conclusion. I saw it coming for New York, Portland OR and a few more places I was on business trips, people though I was a little off to say the least.

Los Angelas has been shipping homeless up here to the desert by the bus load. They drop them off on D'st in Victorville and the parking lot @ 2nd and Main in Hesperia.

Ask a homeless how he ended up here and they will often say they were dropped off at one of those places.
