Available now!!! Sammy's greatest seasonal offering. If beer could be crafted into a double thick milk shake this would be it.

I missed it last year, as stocks flew off the shelf; I happened to spy it this year and bought a good supply. The GC of American offerings.....

Anyone else tried it?

Where did you find the Ayinger? Of what I can get locally, I like Optimator best. Not that I drink much beer -- only with pork roast and cheese. Mmmm...

I really expected too much bittering hops for the style - which is the standard for Sam Adams - however for a commercial beer there is some malt and complexity - but still lacking some body. A good beer.

I'm thirsty - but alas the local vino is excellent tonight.

From the website,

Due to legal restrictions, Samuel Adams® Double Bock can not be sold in the states of Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

8.8% ABV?

I suggest a call to your legislators

That sucks. I can't even make a 'run for the border', the Alabama border. I guess that means I'll need to make my own double bock, drink two Sam Adams regular bock rather than just one double bock.

Why make such silly laws? Here in TN, you can't purchase beer at a liquor store. You purchase beer at a food store or gas station (!! yes...drinking and driving...stooopid!) or, if you sell tobacco products you can sell beer. It's okay to purchase 100 proof whatever, but not 18 proof beer? Silly.

I'll have to 'settle' for Dutch Nut Brown Ale.

There is actually a "Triple Bock" that was once produced by Sam Adams; it came in a cobalt blue bottle with a cork and was about $7 USD for 12 oz. It was really like "Bock wine" with major molasses, vanilla and maple syrup flavor. No froth, just a sheared down 20 weight with about 8K miles on it.

This wine I had with excellent home made Italian last night:

The wife and I had a bottle of the cab from 2000. Opened it up and it was cooked. I was so disappointed. It was given to us by some friends that knew we liked their offerings but knew we couldn't find it easily. They didn't store it correctly. Since then they bought a small wine fridge.

Every tried Robert Sinskey? They make some great organic wines. The funny thing is that when they first got in the business they were certified organic but they kept it a secret. And I understand why. The first organically grown wines I had were terrible. But the Sinskey can make a fantastic Pinot.

I agree with Tom Slick, Celebrator is great Doubble bock @6.7 ABV I had a four pack last weekend, but so is the Sam Adams.

Yeah, this like Sam Adams' other "Extreme" beers was really meant to be consumed at room temp a few ounces at a time like a wine or aperitif.

If you live in a state (like I do) where the law prevents the sale of Double Bock because of the alcohol level, you may want to try Sam Adams Black Lager. I picked up a six pack of this today and I just finished one. It is a fantastic beer. I think it's going to supplant Cream Stout as my favorite Sam Adams beer.

If you want a good laugh, read the reviews of Triple Bock here.

I've done a little research on Triple Bock and it really shouldn't even be called a bock beer. They use an ale yeast for fermentation, not a lager yeast. This stuff seems more like a triple strength, non carbonated stout.

GMan, this prohibition clearly bothers you.

I'd sympathise more, but you just reminded me I have another 9 DB's in the fridge. Later.....
