High value, high skill jobs... In reality, there is a big shortage of highly skilled labor force in the country. That is hampering our development technologically. The limits placed on the possibility of bringing highly skilled talent from overseas is impacting our growth negatively.

There are still lots of American manufacturing that end up being components of "Made in China" assembly.

Well, most of the stuff is merely assembled in China from foreign made components made here and elsewhere in the world. But they are investing heavily in intellectual property generation capacity.

In critical industry like Semiconductor, there are lots of equipment export ban and is therefore one of the main reason chips are not made in China. They just couldn't buy equipment until they are obsoleted for profitable use in the high end stuff. I'd imagine Samsung's investment in US has as much to do with international trade politics as to do with return on investment.

I'm in the semiconductor/optoelectronics industry and lots of our devices go to China. they are investing heavily in fiber optic infrastructure and they buy all the devices we can make.
