Well, I got it done. Drive flies, 10.7 Lion and W7 both run great. Loving it! Was suprised to see that the DVD and HDD were Apple-specific (they had apple logos on on them and Apple-specific firmware) Whatever adhesive they used on that flat cable was a real hassle to get up. Hard to see and a bit of an illusion, but the SSD is 1/3-1/2 thinner, and a bit lighter. Silent too of course. Installed and working great. 10.7 didnt natively enable TRIM on the drive, so Ill do that next. Ive been operating in W7 primarily to get the feel for that and other SW installed/updated. Does W7 automatically TRIM SSDs, or do I need to do something in it too?

TRIM on Apple 10.6.8 or higher may not be needed. Can't find the article now, but OS X performed fine months after the installation w/o TRIM.

Windows 7 will also disable defrag and Superfetch when an SSD is present as the system drive. If you formatted the Windows partition during Windows 7 setup, the partition is aligned correctly as well. Be sure you have the latest firmware for the SSD, too. An SSD is easily the single most noticeable performance upgrade for any computer today.

Here's how you can tell it's working: http://forums.legitreviews.com/about23670.html If you'd bought the Intel SSD, there's a tool kit that will check to make sure that the settings in Win7 are correct. "NO DEFRAG" is probably the most important.

Absolutely! after an SSD upgrade, My 2008 MB base model boots in 10 sec, instantly comes on after suspend, etc. It's like having a new laptop. Even with only a SATA-I based controller. I applaud the OP for upgrading this level of computer, it sure beats the cost of a new one!!

I thought I read somewhere that the Samsung 830 also has a toolbox available that has a specific Samsung-developed garbage collection application.
