Need to change the Dex III and filter in my 3/4 ton chevy van. Sams had it for about a $1.00 per quart, just wondered if it was any good.

Also, what makes ATF and ATF? Curious about what is in it.

Are you asking about a "Sam's club" branded ATF ? Because I haven't seen that.

I have gotten ATF from Sam's the last couple times I have picked up some Dexron III/Mercon, and it has been Mobil.

I got some before they had Mobil, but I'm not sure I remember what it was... may have been Texaco.

What they have also may vary, I suppose. I'm near St. Louis.

You take a series of oils, blend them to the proper viscosity for shear resistance, and then you add about 18 components to insure proper firction modification, oxidation resistance, rust and corrosion resistance, Anti-wear resistance, etc.

BTW, Afton Chemical, formerly Ehtyl corp, is a major player in ATF adds as well.

The bottles and cases just say Dextron III / Mercon ATF, Period.
On the back, it says distributed by Sam's West.

Looks like the old mobil bottle or the citgo bottles.

Since Warren packages a lot of motor oils for WalMart and Sam's is part of WalMart my guess would be that is is a Warren produced product. Generally their stuff meets whatever the required specifications are, but rarely are they the best products on the market.

If you want a great bargain on Dexron, look for Chevron Dexron III labelled "Meets Specification H" on sale. I recently bought some at Kragen for under $1.00 per quart after rebate.
