Sam's club "certified motor oil"

From Sam's Club website info:

Specifications
High performance
High detergent
Meets car manufacturers warranty requirements for gasoline engines where API SL oils are specified
Protection against wear, rust and corrosion, piston scuffing and combustion chamber deposits, high temperature oxidation and valve train wear

Appears to be SL, not SN.

Nothing wrong with it

But Kmart has Smitty's syn blend on sale for $1.69/qt, or $7.99 for a 5qt jug

The Dexos 1 list shows that Dexos "Certified Motor Oil" is produced by Reliance Technologies, Niagra Falls, NY. Their website is pretty sparse. It mentions API SN approved oils, but there is no additional detail available beyond that statement. They also do private label blending.

Could be that Sam's Club has not updated their website info.

Since I can get Trop-Artic for $1.89-$2.09 per qt, doubtful I will change my purchasing habits.

I agree.
Mobil 1 is 22 bucks for 5 quart jug.
Meijer has $5 off automotive purchase $30 or more.
Mobil rebates $12 for each.
That's $1.50/qt plus taxes.

Just looked at a bottle of this at my SAMS club in Charlotte last Friday. Somebody else had opened the case. It is SN rated and made by Warren. They had 5W-30, 10W-30 and 10W-40. Probably similar to Supertech.
