Safest way to remove the plastic oil jug seal?

Reason I asked is bc Ive read someone lost a chunk and then watched it pour into his engine. Another guy prefilled a filter, did the same thing. Stuff happens and I was born friday the 13th

I stick a screwdriver near the edge and cut it circular around the bottle neck. Not all the way so the seal remains attached to the bottle.

So there is no separation and no mess.

sometimes ill cut a small slit on the bottom and in the middle of that slit go vertically a bit. cut a hole in the top of the seal so it doesnt glug

sometime tonight ill post a pic

That sounds similar to the video posted..

Just wondering what the best way is to prevent a chunk of the plastic jug seal from contaminating the oil. Ive always punched it in, or tried to peal if off, but it never comes off cleanly.

Thanks!
Welcome brother, you should spend more time here you'll fit right in! It's a BITOG thing.

I cut around the edge in a circle with a sharp utility knife and grab it as soon as I can and just lift the little disc out.

Thanks bud.. I'm all over the place asking questions bc I have a trust issue and try to do everything myself.
Know how to trap a big coon without trapping a cat? Kid "borrowed" my rifle and wont give it back.

I punch the seal hard with a finger to puncture it, then peel off what will come off easily. The rest stays in place. If a seal is extra tough, I use a utility knife and cut around the inside edge of the rim far enough that I can grab the seal with my fingers and peel it off. It has never been difficult enough to need a tutorial.

Marshmallow paste. Not kidding. I had the same problem and searched the web. Coons have a sweet tooth and cats don't seem to want marshmallows

Anyway in most cases a little bit of the seal won't hurt anything. It's possible it could plug an oil galley but more likely it gets caught in the pump pickup or shoved into a corner of the head and just sits there until you do valve cover gaskets ;)

I hope you don't perform any medical surgery.
Sorry to say but my 6 year old grandson would do better, yikes!
Again, looks to be a ST jug and they use an odd white (I think?) cover with a weird cling-wrap-esque coating underneath. Even the sharpest knife won't cut cling wrap very well. It's not exactly cling wrap, either, as it seems more stretchy and rubbery, but almost thinner. I dunno -- words can't easily explain it.

I love Mobil 1 except their stupid seal. I don't do any cutting. I will make a video how I do it when I change my oil next time lol

I saber all my oil jugs
