Hi all, recent registree long time reader.
Id like to extend my oil drain time so heres the plan I 'came up with'.
Synthetic Oil (usually mobil 1 5w30, I recently put in Valvoline Syntec 5w30)
change filter at 3100 miles (add oil as necessary, I figure about 1 qrtr)
change oil & filter at 7200 miles.
safe plan for subaru 2.5L?

Pretty conservative. Shouldn't be a problem. As usual do a UOA . If you have a coolant leak 7K miles is a long time.
coolant leaks are especially harsh on oil?
man i dont wanna do a uoa! the whole point is to save money, while being conservative. Doing a uoa voids the save money portion ![[Smile]](images/icons/smile.gif)
edit: i watch my cocolant very carefully, and dont lose more than 1 cm from the resevoir tank every 3 months.

If you have a real slow internal leak you may not notice and the oil and coolant will have a party GM 60 degree v6 owners know all too much about.
If you have a coolant leak you should know it because your coolant will be disappearing, or it will be leaking onto the ground.
I think you will be absolutely fine with your plan, no need to do UOAs, but with them you could extend the interval farther, find problems before they happen, and its fun.
