Hello,

Synthetic Blend 5W-30 is regular service oil
for Saab 9-5. Engine is 2.3 light pressure
turbo. The Blackstone labs guys guessed
correctly.

Below is UOA with 6,000 miles on oil.

What do you guys think? This oil has had
problems sludging up after 10,000 miles, though.

Just some random thoughts .

Pretty good looking 2 buck a liter Mobil oil eh ? Starting TBN of 11 correct ?

Blackstone keeps referring to this oil and the 0w-30 Mobil Long Life as diesel oils . I bet they are friction modified to no end .

Cinderella just read this and stated would it not be silly to drive right on by a Saab dealer to purchase 1.50- 2.00 a quart dino's in this viscosity elsewhere ?

I said yes Cinderella your one smart little Australian Cattle dog but not every human will agree with you

Pablo,
It's an SL oil, but they downgraded it from ACEA A3/B3 to A1/B1. I believe they also removed the API diesel ratings when they reformulated.

J,
Are you sticking with your decision to run this for the full 10k miles? And have you accepted the TX position?

I have not accepted the TX position yet. I'm
still deciding.

I'll do the service in August or 10,000 miles
whichever comes first.

Cheers,

Jae

Looks great!

Does this interval include your round-trip cross-country roadtrip?

Looks like the 9-5 Linear (low pressure turbo) is easier on the oil, and shows lower wear metals than the Aero (high output turbo, 21 lbs of boost)

Hey Jase,

The interval is almost entirely round-trip
cross-country road-trip (hyphenation intended

)

TBN was 3.8. I guess that means the oil
is still very much alive.

Viscosity dropped about 6%, not too shabby...

I don't know where you found the starting viscosity but this stuff is pretty thin isn't it? Barely a 30 weight. Not that it's a bad thing, just an observation...
