My 2009 RX8 R3 has 28k miles on it and i wanted to go ahead and do some early servicing.

I changed out the differential fluid with my personal favorite gear oil, Valvoline Synpower 75w90.

I also changed out the transmission gear oil with Motorcraft Manual Transmission Fluid.
this fluid is a GL-4 75w90 and it has some very impressive specs. It's not cheap, but ive never felt such buttery smooth shifting. i picked up the fluid pump from advance and it made life so easy, best $10 ive spent in a while.

why didn't you use the Valvoline fluid for both the diff and the trans? Are the specs on the Motorcraft that awesome? I guess I have not looked much at it.

I took the title word "spoiled" in a whole different way! Nice car, hated to think it was "spoiled"...but glad to see you were taking care of it.

That is one sweet RX8. Love the dark blue

A day to do all that maintenance is nice, I enjoy those days.
I should get one of those pumps... I gravity feed when I do the trans fluid on my car, and it is a pain, I have to have someone help me with it.

I'll have to check out that pump, although I'm with dwcopple, seems steep for a simple plastic thing like that... haha

I try to keep my vehicles maintained well. i really love this car too. i was hesitant to own a rotary powered car, but i love it. my favorite thing is it is the R3 version and they only made 555 R3 cars in 2009, so it is pretty rare. also most R3 cars were red. i believe i read on rx8club that 2009 is the only year for the blue color. It's cool to never pass a car like it.

yes, $10 does seem steep until you realize how easy it makes the job. I used to gravity feed, but this is so much easier. it also came with different link hoses so it can be used for either gallon or qt jugs. its really nice to have.

SLCraig, what make is so great is you do not have to have 2 people to use it. i just ran the hose into the hole and pumped away. i didnt even have to hold it into the fill hole. it does take quite a few pumps. it took me about 30 pumps to drain a qt, but being virtually mess free is a great perk as well. i also like that with the pump your a lot less likely to spill good fluid on the ground. with the price of some synthetic lubes, i hate the thought of spilling a qt.

Worth it though. That pump made changing the trans fluid on my old M5OD Ranger quicker and easier than doing an engine oil change.

That RX8 is super clean underneath.

I would never have been able to replace the transfer case and differential gear oil on my car without such a pump.

Many cars place things too closely together, so closely that getting a bottle in place is difficult or impossible.

I could understand not wanting to spend $10 on a pump if you had an older vehicle or a piece of heavy equipment.
