This is the second UOA posted for this unit (first one is here. ), a '96 John Deere 955 compact tractor. Almost two years had gone by since the oil/filter was changed, although it only had 50 hours of use, so I figured I'd change it out. According to Blackstone, I needn't have done so..
Oil = RTS 5-40, CI-4+; filter was NAPA 1064.
After I poured in the new RTS 5-40, I was wiping off the jug, and noticed it has a CH-4 rating (musta' been from a really old part of the stash..
), so, I guess the next UOA should be interesting. New filter is NAPA 1334, which I've gone to as a standard for all my J-D stuff.
Without further ado:
RON: Leaving this oil in place for 2 years wasn't a problem at all. As long as an oil doesn't become overly contaminated with wear metals, fuel, moisture, and/or coolant, it can be left in place indefinitely.
Unfortunately engines are very dirty places, which requires having oil changed from time to time. This fill could have easily been run longer. Universal averages are based on an oil run of ~90 hours. All wear read close to average and in the proper balance. The TBN was strong at 10.3 so this oil still had lots of active additive left. The trace of fuel isn't an issue. Nice!
