That test from Street Commodores that johnny-b was takling about was posted up in the Car & Engine Oil forum by myself a few months back. Might be worth searching for!

Bottom line, it was a Timken test, and it was done with cold oil too it seems!

SYNERLEC = sulfurized ester non ash forming

I'd guess the only thing proprietary is the word "SYNERLEC" itself. The ester is probably available to any blender that wants to use it, and some do without the fanfare.
