ok guys. ive got conflicting opinions of this oil by doing my searches.

im thinking about switching to RP in my truck. what do u guys think? suggest it or not? its either that or mobil 1 for my next oil change.

im running Pennzoil Platinum right now and loving it

, but want to try a different oil just for the **** of it. (used oil analysis will be done of all oils).

...i will be using 5w30 @ 6k OCI, in my '03 Ford Ranger FX4 4.0 SOHC w/ 44,000mi
anyways...

-is RP a true synthetic?, some have said it has group II in it or it is just a syn blend.

-does RP shear terribly and will this be a problem for me?

-Which do you guys think is better Mobil 1 or RP?

thanks for any input guys. im also thinking about switching my diff fluid and possibly trans over to M1 or RP.

...now that i think about it, i think i will try both M1 and RP in my truck and see first hand which it likes better plus do used oil analysis. but i would like to know more about RP. thanks!

RP is a Group IV, real synthetic

RP does shear, but always seems to show good used oil analysis anyway

Depends on the vehicle

For gear oil, I would go with RP.

thanks blu! i think i will do a used oil analysis on the Pennzoil Platinum when i change it. then put in Royal Purple, and when its time is up do a used oil analysis on that.

so what all do i need to do for a used oil analysis, ive never done one. how much does this cost, and how do i get started? thanks for the help, and any more input on Royal Purple is appreciated!

The only place I have seen RP is at Pep Boys and they just bumped the price up from 5.99 to 6.49 a quart!

I'm probably going back to Havoline my next OIC. I currently have Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 that I got from Pep Boys. After the 2 rebates it comes out to like .32 cents a quart. Maybe something to consider as my OIC came to less money wise than 1 quart or RP and that includes the filter!

Pep Boys and AA are doing a 15 dollar rebate this month for Pennzoil Platinum again. If you are happy with it I'd stock up on this as much as you can.

O'Reilly's and most NAPA stores sell Royal Purple, too.

I use the Royal Purple gear oil in all of my vehicles and I've used the synthetic motor oil with excellent results, too. (Of course, I can buy the stuff for about $3.50 a quart, so it's more cost-effective for me than any other synthetic oil on the market.)

Take a look at your MPG when shifting to RP. If you save 2-3% gas, then it seems that RP is not that expencive. Also, reduced maintenance cost should be considdered. Another positive thing I have heard about RP, is that its cleaning abillities are great. Personally, I do 18000miles(30000km) OCI on my 2003 Mercedes cdi.engine, Supported by the OLM. The engine seems to run smother on RP than on Castrol Syntec or Mobil 1.

any body know anything about the add pack? how does it compare to mobil 1 or PP? i like what u said about the increased cleaning abilities. i hope thats true. thanks
