My 2003 Cobra has been running great after this oil change. It's expensive stuff but good insurance on a high performance motor.

Royal Purple. Believing the hype?
By Jaredon September 24, 2012
Size Name: 12 Quart (384 Ounces)Verified Purchase
Royal Purple HPS 5w30 has been a fantastic motor oil in my application. I drive my car sparingly, but when I do drive, it is "spirited" and aggressive. Prior to running the HPS 5w30, I was a long time user of Amsoil and Castrol 0w30 synthetic.

6 quarts of HPS 5w30 later, my Saleen S281 is running quieter than it did on the previous fill of Castrol EDGE SPT. The car feels less sluggish and has a more immediate responsive feeling to throttle input.

great oil
By Stephen P Hansonon December 2, 2012
Size Name: 5 Gallon (640 Ounces)Verified Purchase
Used oil anaylsis have shown this oil to give extremely low wear and even after 10K it shows a high TBN (better to resist acids) I would rate this oil excellent for high performance engines and extended OCI's.

All I have to say is WOW!!!
By Jacek Kaczochaon December 28, 2013
Size Name: 1 Quart, Case of 6Verified Purchase
I've been using Mobil 1, Castrol, Valvoline, etc. but this oil is beyond them all!
Engine runs so much more smoothly, quietly and with much better acceleration and torque. Whoever claims their engine is louder must be hearing voices and should see a specialist! Combine it with a pro oil filter and you won't look back!!!

Engine runs much more quietly...
By John L Petrofskion December 19, 2013
Size Name: 1 Quart (32 Ounces)Verified Purchase
This oil makes my car run extremely quiet, a very noteable difference between using non-synthetic oil. Is also one of the best cleaning oils I have used, having a noticeable effect on cleaning the sludge I could see through the oil fill hole. If you love your car and "have" to buy more expensive oil, give this one a try.

*DO NOT MIX WITH REGULAR Royal Purple. Jeep Grand Cherokee V8. Works Great.
By chasesparkson July 11, 2014
Size Name: 1 Quart, Case of 6Verified Purchase
Since I have started doing my own oil changes, I went ahead and opted to spend the few extra dollars and go with Royal Purple products and have had good results. This was my first time using the HPS line. It is awesome so far. Within just a minute of running, my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L v8 sounded smoother and quieter. I paired the Oil with a K&N HP2004 oil filter and a K&N Air Filter. The results are great.

******I would like to add, I didn't buy enough and was about 1/2 quart short. I called Royal Purple and asked if I could mix HPS with regular Royal Purple to top off the rest because I had some regular left over and HPS is hard to get in stores. They said that mixing the HPS line with regular Royal Purple was definitely not recommended. The additives are different in both and mixing would cause the positive effects of the HPS oil to become weakened due to certain additives "canceling out" others and may also cause too much of certain additives. So DO NOT MIX WITH REGULAR ROYAL PURPLE OIL. I couldn't find anything on this on my search before calling, so Just a "Heads-Up"! My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L took 6 1/2 Quarts to get the oil to be in the "Safe Zone" on the oil stick on flat ground while running despite that online says 5 quarts in some places... always go by the stick and buy enough oil.

Royal Purple Engine Oil HPS
By SanyaSon January 20, 2014
Size Name: 12 Quart (384 Ounces)Verified Purchase
Will always use this oil for all my cars. It's a bit pricey but is worth it in the long run, and buying a box of oil at once comes out to be cheaper. Saves you a trip to the store with every oil change.

Royal purple is the best
By Lindsay H.on October 6, 2013

Royal purple pile is the only oil I use in all of my vehicles. It is the best oil on the market. I autocross the vehicle that I put this oil in and have had no problems like other with the same car that uses conventional oil.

Great oil for my BMW
By Ian Workmanon August 30, 2013

I purchased Royal Purple HPS 5W-30 for my initial oil change for my 2013 BMW 335is over the performance BMW oil. It has been doing wonderfully on my daily drives to and from work along with pushing 100 to 130 mph. I will be purchasing more and continue to use this product.

The best stuff
By Jimmyon May 9, 2013
Size Name: 12 Quart (384 Ounces)Verified Purchase
I recently bought a 01 lexus es 300 with 145000 miles on it, started out using 5w30 royal purple and did my research and found that the HPS has the synerlec that you need. The only issue is right now I cant find it anywhere except Amazon which is not a bad thing because it is still cheaper than the regular 5w30 if you buy it by the case.My car is smoother and quiter and I am getting about 2-3 miles more to the gallon on gas.I will be changing the filter this weekend but not the oil.The oil can go to 10k and Im at 7k.Read all of the hype then try it I bet you will stick to Royal Purple, I am.

The Best Synthetic Oil for ALL vehicles!
By Adam Pitton June 27, 2013
Size Name: 12 Quart (384 Ounces)Verified Purchase
I gave this a 5 Star rating because in my opinion, Royal Purple High Performance is the best synthetic motor oil available today. I have replaced the junk they put in my mom's Infiniti with Royal Purple and she says she is getting better performance from her car. I also replaced whatever synthetic oil they had in the new Chevrolet Corvette (2013) that I recently purchased, with Royal Purple HP Synthetic Motor Oil and am very pleased with the way my car performs, too. I recommend Royal Purple to all of my friends and car "nuts" and several have changed theirs to Royal Purple and are amazed with the positive difference in their cars. That is why I have rated this oil so highly.

Maybe it's my imagination but my truck (03 Tundra w/160000 mi) seems to be running better and quieter. I have used Royal purple before and it worked fine but the HPS seems to make a big difference.

Royal Purple HPS vs Pentosin
By YPon August 31, 2014
Size Name: 1 Quart (32 Ounces)Verified Purchase
Great product, I use it on my 2006 Audi A6 Quattro.

Even though it's not on the list of oils recommended by the factory but I feel like this one is way better than recommended Pentosin. I used Royal Purple HPS 5W-30 all the time until recently I tried to use recommended Pentosin which was 5W-40. It was right before spring began.

One note is that my Audi burns oil and it's been acknowledged by the Audi itself to add 1 quart every 6K miles, that's how they work and nothing you can do about it.
When I used Royal Purple HPS, my dash would warn me of minimum level and to add oil, one time or sometimes never during the 10K miles interval.
Fast forward to Pentosin, I got warned twice during 10K miles interval. I had to add oil twice.

With Pentosin I drove only to school, about 15 miles a day in normal conditions (no mountains) in Washington state and I can remember only one 4 hour trip to Oregon (some mountains).
With Royal Purple HPS I drove around the whole country, literally. Just to give an idea, I drove from Washington to Minnesota and Missouri in winter, Florida in Summer, Cali in fall and when coming back, sometimes I used different routes.

That includes driving through Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Utah, Cali, Georgia, Tennessee mountains, Midwest plains; Florida and Midwest hot summers; and also Minnesota, North and South Dakota winters where temperatures reached 6 degrees. Also to mention that I drove many times to mountains in Washington state in winter, hot desert in summers and constant Washington rain throughout the year.

Looking back, Royal Purple always served well to me and my car. I never realized that until I tried to use Pentosin in my car.

Bow down the king
By ferrarion August 22, 2014
Size Name: 1 Quart (32 Ounces)Verified Purchase
First time user and very satisfied quick background is I own a 09 chevy impala 3.5 v-6 bought it brand new. I been hearing a lot of talk over different toils over the last couple years as they change. Royal purple which seems to be the cats tail of oils I did a lot of research on and settled on buying hps. I previously used pennzoil for about a month but it made my car roar especially during winter in New York. So I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic oil and I very satisfyed but concerned that it's not lasting a long as I would like it to so I just recently put in royal purple after 6000 miles on Mobil 1. After driving with royal purple I notice that my car is super super quite like its a hybrid. Also I can see a small difference in how smooth the engine runs compared to before but I don't notice a difference is the mileage mpg so maybe in time. But in my onion the royal purple is totally worth the money and can save you money. Take the challenge and try the royal purple you will be really happy. Thank you RP.

Simply the Best Motor Oil
By Surfoneon September 15, 2014
Size Name: 1 Quart, Case of 6Verified Purchase
Royal Purple is the best oil for high temperature running engines and around town driving. add the HPS formula and you have the added benefit of greater protection for those engines having close tolerances between rings and cylinder surfaces. I have 40,000 miles on a 2006 G-35 Infiniti. This car runs like it did the first day I bought it. I punch it at least once a day to keep the spirit alive as it were and this always brings a smile to my face along with a gorgeous exhaust note. Premium gas and great oil from Royal Purple...!!

i do belive that 5000 miles is a good first turnover
By Orlandoon September 9, 2014
Size Name: 1 Quart, Case of 6Verified Purchase
Outstanding products. Always high quility. Packaged well and delivered on time. As expected from Royal Purple, no issues while I switched from conventional to this synthetic. Synthetics are rated for much more than 3000 miles between oil changes, was able to get 5000 before my 4Runner was asking me for an oil change. This being my first oil change between conventional and synthetic, i do belive that 5000 miles is a good first turnover. Will definately be buying again from now on.

Sweet purple necture.
By stroobyon June 1, 2012

Excellent oil. Holds up to any punishment I've thrown at it. Really like the color too. The 5 gallon size is perfect for me (car takes 2.5 gallons per change).
Only thing bad I could say is that if you do not have an oil jug to poor into; this size would be very difficult to use.

This is a good product at a good price but it is easy ...
By Robert Cruderon July 17, 2014
Size Name: 1 Quart, Case of 6Verified Purchase
Fast delivery. The engine is quieter but have not yet seen a difference in power or mileage. The original problem was cam bearing galling and seizure in less than 5000 miles after a rebuild on a very cold morning. If the problem is specific to the failed head I may never know if the HPS has helped. This is a good product at a good price but it is easy to succumb to the placebo effect when switching to a different oil.

Skeptic turned Believer
By Brent Son September 1, 2014
Size Name: 1 Quart, Case of 6Verified Purchase
Put in an 02 Silverado and immediately the truck ran smoother and was NOTICEABLY quieter as many other reviews stated. My wife even commented on the reduce decibels. Power seems as good or a bit better. I know from reading comparisons online that the protection is much improved over 95% of all other brands. More money for it but I am ok with that as you can tell a difference as soon as you fire it up!

Best oil, period.

I have been using RP synth oil in all of my cars since new. The best oil I have ever used. This was my first time using HPS and although I do not feel any difference between it and the RP API certified, the extra zinc protection is a good insurance.

Thanks for asking. I should have clarified in my initial thread. I remember a long time ago when I first tried RP, I noticed that my engine ran quietier. When I mentioned it on BITOG, I was told repeatedly that my butt dyno isn't sensitive enough to differentiate engine noise from one oil to another. Nearly 1/2 the reviews on Amazon mention this exact thing. Not to mention same being reported on other grades of both HPS and API cert RP oils.

Correction....these are actually reviews of the 5w30 HPS version. It has 88 reviews.

My butt-dyno couldn't tell any difference when I used RP (circa mid-2000s) but I did indeed "hear" the engine sound different.

Lol I love the claims of much better gas mileage and more horsepower.

It's the placebo effect

If I had a high performance car I might try the HPS but I feel there would be many options that could be a better value.
The API stuff at Wally world is over priced and M1, PP, Edge, etc are just as good if not better at far better value. Not to mention most people I know and people on BITOG usually stock up on great oils on the cheap.
But to each their own, opinions are like A holes you know, everyone has some brand, company, etc they're favor, for real or placebo reasons.
I just don't understand what posting Amazon comments is supposed to accomplish.

I wouldn't say so, but we do read many of the same comments over here, just from switching from Brand X to Brand Y.

Heck at 10 a quart I might use it every so often. I haven't seen it for under 14 for quite some time.

Especially when I can buy whatever's on rollback for 25 a jug.

I can usually get a case of 5w20 or 5w30 HPS for $93~95. So it actually comes out to $8. The 5w40 I can usually get it for around $88~90.

HPS is the good stuff RP makes. Synerlec is fantastic. Even Joe Gibbs did testing with it and got good results and it did produce more HP than a couple of big name oils.
