Rotella T6 - $59.98 a case - amazon

Interesting it meets JASO MA, but not API S rated. I think they just dont bother to put S on the bottles

The 15w-40 is API SN if that's what you're referring to.
it does not say that on the donut is what I was referring to. 5w40 Says the same thing, JASO MA MA2, CK, but no S in the donut. The donut is supposed to show the latest API rating the oil meets.

I understand it lists it in a sentence, but it is not in the donut. It is my understanding that is what counts.

Nobody cares. People shopping for T6 are only interested in the CK-4/CJ-4 rating, Cummins 20086, Ford F1, etc.

What is the application calling for SP (or even SN+) 15w-40?

It has been a recent topic on some other threads, as T6 used to be S rated, and now it does not display it. Who cares? Many used it as a motorcycle oil, which is why I noted JASO MA/2, for wet clutch compatibility.

JASO MA and JASO MB classifications

Modern motorcycles usually have the same oil lubricating the engine and the wet clutch. For this purpose most of the time the regular friction modified engine oils are not good enough. To make sure that the right oil is used motorcycle manufacturers usually require the oil to meet one of the JASO standards explained below.

The motor oils that meet the JASO T 903:2006 standard can be classified into four grades: JASO MA, JASO MA1, JASO MA2 and JASO MB. The classification is based on the results of the JASO T 904:2006 clutch system firction test.

In order for a motor oil to meet any of the above mentioned JASO standards it must be at least of one of the following quality levels:

  • API SG, SH, SJ, SL, SM
  • ILSAC GF-1, GF-2, GF-3
  • ACEA A1/B1, A3/B3, A3/B4, A5/B5, C2, C3

The above states that JASO must meet an API classification of G,H,J,L,M.

Just interesting that they dont put it in the donut is all. I wonder if anyone has some insight.

Yeah, I don't think Shell "Officially" is approved for SN, Only "Meets", so it will not go in the donut. I was just mentioning that Rotella 5w-40 T6 doesn't even mention SN rating anywhere, not even in the sentence on the back of jug, while the 15w T6 does. Not really sure why though b/c the additive package is exactly the same between 15w-40 & 5w-40 T6.

Not a bad price... I need to change the oil in my Honda CTX700 .
Bought a case of the 5W-40 T6.
Thanks for the heads up.

We are BITOG,, we can look and the numbers in the UOA or VOA and discern the oils worthiness of use.

Went by Sams and it’s $52.xx in the store.
None of the semi local Sams have had T6 in 6 months around here.

Thats how the Black Friday marking spoofed me since T6 was never in store
Not sure why they even bothered putting up a sign for something they ran out of last spring
