What do you guys think? Not liking the high lead levels.

I run this oil in my 2002 dodge van. I now hve 240,000 miles and run it 8000 miles oci avg. I have not had any engine problems. I have never done an oil sample, but it does not use oil at this time. Guess i need to do a sample to see if I have any issues there, but if it holds together to 500k, i will get a new van.

There must be a mistake on the report, 8qt and 5qt of make up oil added? Is that supposed to be .8qt, and .5qt?

Unfortunately no mistake the make up oil is correct. The valve seals are shot and need replacing.

I'm mainly concerned about the lead and a possible problem developing with the bearings.

beech277...I have a '00 LC, w/ the 2UZFE engine, new to me about 8K ago - I'm still trying to find an oil that "feels right". Started w/ Syntec 5W-30 in the engine when I bought, I changed to M1 0W-40, and now have Formula Shell (FS) 10W-30...we'll see. Most people on IH8MUD seem to use M15W-30. You didn't find the HDEO 40W weighs down the engine in 1st and 2nd? No overheating issues (my fan runs often in the summer).

The Rotella T6 comes highly recommended for this engine since it has a lot of anti wear additives. I did see Walmart had the T5 when I was in there today which is a 10-30 synthetic. I may try in on the next interval after I do some research on it. My 4.5L feels woefully underpowered compared to your V8, but I can't tell any difference in power with a 40wt vs a 30wt.

I know nothing about these engines but lead doesnt look good. If you want my advise I would spend the money on Terry Dyson.

Lead per mile is actually lower on your longer run.
However, since this thing is changing its own oil as you drive, that may not mean anything, although iron wear is linear between the two samples, and quite low.
I agree that it would be worth getting a Dyson consult.
Could this just be a prolonged streak from a largish particle, or a collection of them, passing through the bearing(s)?
Remember, lead per mile is actually lower in your second sample, so could this excess wear be gradually fading?
Terry would have a pretty good idea of what's going on.

You have a serious problem. 8 quarts make-up in 5k miles, massive lead, and your insols. are fairly high for 5k (usually see about .2-.3).

Or, it is possible that the HD oil is just doing a major clean-up of the engine...I dunno, but I'd be worried!

Could all that oil getting in to the combustion chamber possibly be causing detonation, thus killing your bearings? I mean, seriously... 8 quarts of oil in 5000 miles? Thats about a teaspoon of oil every three miles. Maybe try higher octane gas or something. Maybe find an oil full of moly. Delo? Mos2 additive maybe?

I guess anything is worth a shot. Seems that burning that much oil HAS to be lower the octane rating of the gas. Add in some hot days (I don't know how hot it's been in TN here lately, but it's been SCORCHING in VA) and that seems even more reasonable.

Weird that the universal average for that engine has such astoundingly low wear numbers, and yours shows VERY little wear metals aside from the lead.

Just a thought, anyhow.
