When I bought my car the owner gave me his extra oil filter, and the Rotella 0w-40 Syn oil. It's an SJ oil.
I am thinking I should give this to my neighbour and go with Mobil.

My car is a 98 Outback. This oil is probably better for diesels?

Is it 0W-40 or 5W-40? I've never seen Rotella syn in 0W-40. My red block turbo Volvos (gas engines) seem to like the 5W-40 Rotella syn - I wouldn't hesitate to use it in your Subie.

In Canada, Rotella synth is a 0w-40. I seem to recall that I couldn't find a PDS on it ..much like you have to go to Imperial Oil (ESSO) to get a pds on XD-3. Canada is, apparently, in a whole other world when it comes to some oils. Any refiner/producer that sells in Canada has a variety of oils that are exclusive to Canada.

I'm thinking it's going to be pretty chilly up in fort mac this winter for a 40wt, even if its' a 0w-40. Your owner's manual probably asks for a 5w-30.

I'd run it, but I'd wait until next may.
