Rotella T 5-40 and Forester Turbo question

It seems like about a year ago I read on this forum that Shell RT 5-40 was hard on cat's. Is this still a fact or has this changed since it now meets SM spec? Is there any risk involved in using it? I'd like to try it in my Subie Forester Turbo or would I be better off with something else. I've been using Valvoline Synpower 5-30. Thx for any opinions.

No risk. They say SL was harder on the Cat's than SM oil but how many times do you usually see a Cat failure? Not often.

Many turbo Subbie owners are showing great UOA reports running it.

Ponder this:

Higher levels of zddp will volatilize and ultimately reduce your cat's efficiency.

Lower levels of zddp will volatilize and ultimately reduce your cat's efficiency.

Cat failures due to poisoning are rare.

Future cat efficiency standards (on future models) may be tighter than present standards.

Sounds like I'll give it a go. It seems like a pretty good choice for a hot running turbo motor. Thanks guys.

Hog wash,,,back when SL was currant API i don't remember hearing of allot of cat failures....use it and sleep good at night.
