I've been trying to buy Rotella 5w-30 for my Escape w/ 30K miles, places near me are out. But I've got many gallons of Rotella 5w-40 bought for another vehicle on hand. Any cause not to use the 5W40?

Hehe... I saw the thread title and thought at first you were only putting two liters of oil in your Escape. :)

You can use the 5w-40 oil in your Escape. It will work just fine without any ill-effect... except maybe if you're using in forty below conditions.

T6 5w-40 has 2000ppm calcium and no magnesium in its formula which I would not use in an lspi prone engine like that. If that engine wasn't lspi prone i'd use it. I use diesel oil in my gas engines but they're not lspi prone.

I'd keep using that oil for the vehicle you bought it for and buy a 0/5w-40 euro oil with an sp rating for the ecoboost instead of standard 5w-30. If you no longer have that vehicle and have this oil taking space at mix it with 3qts of regular 30 grade and the 2-3 remaining quarts of that 5w-40 to dilute it with.
