RL 5W-20 - 5,000mi oil/12,000mi Maybach 57

[AEHaas]

2005 Maybach 57 delivered March 25th, 2005 with 175 miles on the odometer. I took a sample after driving 15 miles home from work with 400 miles on the clock. The car comes with a twin turbo 5.5 Liter V12. It has 550 BHP and 660 Ft Lbs torque but I put in a Renntech chipset that they tell me gives another 120 torque. Driving: spirited around town, some highway driving.

Again, the OEM is supposed to be Shell Helix Ultra. I do not have a VOA and I do not think it would have so much Moly in there. Terry said it is mostly from assembly of the engine parts.

The last column on the right side is the second run of RL 5W-20. After the 1st run of 5,000 miles I changed the oil and filter with a new fill of the same RL oil. I dropped the OEM oil at around 2,000 miles and started the 1st run of RL.

Now the car has 12,086 miles. But I traded it in on a Maybach 57 S, yet to be made.

PS- There were light brown colored spots seen on the camshaft and inside the valve compartment. These were there since new and have disappeared now.

Looks like most of your wear numbers have come down nicely. I'm still wondering where the aluminum is coming from.

When are you supposed to take delivery on the 57S?

I'm sure stuff is still wearing in. I haven't done any research on the Maybach's, but I'm willing to bet it has aluminum heads and and aluminum block. If the bores are not lined/sleeved, then it could very well have aluminum still wearing for break-in. As far as the heads, most cams ride on the machined aluminum bearings. There generally are no bearings.

The ETA for the 57 s is March. We are down to only 3 cars, no convertibles, but we will endure i am sure.

Note that the VOA of the Red Line has 10 of Al. It must be some sort of additive. Overall I like what I see and will probably stick with this oil for the new 6.0 L engine in the AMG version of the Maybach 57.

So you've already turned in your car for trade-in but won't get the new one until March?

Yes. It was part of the "deal". It was really good for us so we could not complain that they wanted the current car back now.

Depending on how the deal was structured, I'm sure the good doctor is well covered and the agreed upon value of his old 57 has already been applied to the purchase price of the new 57S.

Now, let's end the talk about the deal and confine this thread to talk about the oil and the car.
