I was quite young when those early flights flew. I remember my mother baking a cake to celebrate the successful launches. Good memories from a long time ago. My condolences.
 
Amazing that a man that has lived his kind of life made it to 95.
I think he even had a heart condition early on.
You will never see a generation equivalent to these folks.

I agree, no generation will even come close.
 
I'm too young to fully appreciate him, but may he rest in peace. Everything I knew about him when I was growing up made him seem amazing. The more I learn about him, the more I am in awe of him.
 
I actually met him back in 98. I was on a Braniff Airlines flight from D.C. to San Antonio and he was sitting in the row in front of me. We talked for a bit, very nice gentleman!

Yes, he was the oldest of the Original 7 (37 when selected for astronaut training) but the longest-lived as well.

It's amazing that he was able to make that 2nd space flight in '98 at age 77.
