RIP J.J. Cale...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainm...98b4_story.html

And for those who don't know: "Cocaine", "After Midnight" and "Call me the breeze" were all written and composed by Cale, not Clapton (overrated jerk) or Lynyrd Skynyrd, who made tons of money off their mediocre covers of these songs, and failed to acknowledged Cale for decades; and Mark Knopfler learned a lot from Cale, (copied Cale's style very successfully and again, never gave him any credit until recently, I read somewhere.

Quote:
"Mr. Cale was never as well known as Eric Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Cash or many of the other musicians who recorded his songs. But if his career was unsung, his songs were not..." -
From the above link.

J.J. Cale, Townes Van Zandt and John Stewart were among my favorite song writers and story tellers of America...I feel very lucky to have been tuned to them in their time...

YES, "Okie" by Cale, "The Phoenix Concerts" (live) by Stewart, and ANYTHING by Townes are some of my faves of all time!

ALL WAY too under appreciated, and unsung themselves (albeit covered by MANY).

RIP JJ.
