Made it to 91. Sounds like he had a life well lived.

Giorgio Armani, the iconic Italian designer who turned the concept of understated elegance into a multibillion-dollar fashion empire, has died, his fashion house confirmed. He was 91.
Armani died at home, the fashion house said. Armani, one of the most recognizable names and faces in the global fashion industry, missed Milan Fashion Week in June 2025 for the first time during the previews of Spring-Summer 2026 menswear to recover from an undisclosed condition.

I don't follow the fashion industry much at all. But when I saw this when reading the news this morning, I did recognize the name. He was definitely successful in the industry.

Oh boy. I thought he was a mascot for a brand name and not a real person.

Nearly all the big names in fashion had a real person behind the name. It does get awkward if a named founder leaves a company. Calvin Klein sold his company over two decades ago but got paid as an advisor until a few years ago.

Old Hugo sure had an eye for fashion.

We tend to think of the rich and famous - but mid level upward leadership in the private/public sector were known to be on the correct “bow heading” to now be wearing their clothing …

Oh - there were the Dassler brothers Adi and Rudolf, whose factories went from making shoes to weapons parts. But they did supply shoes for the Hitler Youth. Also Jesse Owens. But after WWII Adi started Adidas while Rudolf went his own way with Puma.

I have a neighbor who was in the Hitler Youth. It's not like he was given a choice...

He turned 96 recently, and is still as sharp as can be. He has some amazing and chilling stories, many with accompanying pictures, to tell.
