I emailed the Shell tech and inquired as to the amount of moly in Rotella 5W40 Synthetic oil.

He replied that there is no[/i] moly in that recipe.

Should not be a problem for wet clutch motorcycles.

Why wouldn't a technicians word be good enough? What, does an engineer need to answer this petty question?

Well...because BITOG folks are constantly told inaccurate "facts" (or lied to) by various company reps, regarding the products' substances & compositions, performances, rebates, etc. There is usually a post regarding "another" contacted company's mis-statement(s) about every other week or so.

Probably why people like me come here to BITOG - to get the real facts.

Lets just say that we have documented more than enough instances where techs that you or I have access to over the phone or via e-mail are not the most knowledgeable or downright have no clue. That doesn't mean the product is crap or an engineer has to answer a question. It simply means that in many cases, the folks who try an answer your questions are NOT the ones who fully know and understand the products that are out there - they are only as good as the communication they get within their own company. In many cases, it isn't even the techs fault - nobody ever got around to telling them something changed.

Besides, there simply are enough UOA's of this product to verify the fact it contains no moly. Does it hurt to have two sources?

I say all of that as an engineer with the utmost respect for most of the technicians I work with.
