Replace them, or keep driving on them?

Hey guys. I have Pirelli PZero Nero All Season tires on my GTI. These were the OEM tire. I bought the car in December 09. It has 19,100 miles on her. These tires have a UTQG of 400. I have 6/32nd of thread left. I have rotated them every 5K.

These tires are getting really loud. Them hum at all speeds. I have had Pirelli tires in the past. They were always OEM. They always gave me good grip, but wear out quicker because of the soft rubber they use.

The 6 months of rain is coming soon to Oregon, this is another reason I was looking at new tires with more tread.

I was looking at the new Kumho Ecsta 4X. They are $116.00 at DTD. This price is on the lower side for the size. Most of the tires in my size are well over $150.00. I have 225/40/18's on my car.

Tire Rack recently tested the Kumho Ecsta 4X and they liked it pretty good; rated it #1 of the 4 they tested.

If this is a DD, get whichever has the best wet performance.

Tire Rack surveys rate the Kumhos above the Pirellis overall and in wet performance. Plus the Kumhos have a 60,000 mile warranty vs. 45,000 for the Pirellis.

That being said, your Pirellis should be good for another year. OTOH, if you are determined to replace them, the Kumhos are a good buy.

Kumho Ecsta 4X KU22 seems to be a good all-season tire, plus they have $50 rebate going on now.

If you have Discount Tire/America's Tire in your area, have them match DTD price (tax included) plus mounting+balance.

I have just 17,600 miles on my P Zero Neros and I am right about at 30-40% life left. I know I am not gonna make the 45k mile warranty but the tires have been great! So much better than the Michelins that were OEM on my 2008 CTS. I'm probably not going to buy them again.
