1995 Chevy Lumina with a 3.1 engine and I can't figure out how to get the fan belt off. Is there a tension pulley some where?

Is this a trick question or something??

Kinda like when you call the parts house and ask for:

Spark plugs for my Cummins Dodge...
Radiator for my VW Beetle...
Flux Capacitor for my DeLorean...

I wish I had a DeLorean with a flux capacitor. Can you get those for an '87 Grand Am? It would take a little longer than a stainless steel car, but I could get to 88mph.

It's got one of them spring loaded tensioners. It's nearly impossible to get to on this car.

I have a flat tool I bought just to do belts on these cars, most any autoparts store should have the tool.

My daughter had a '95 Corsica with the 3.1L engine. If the Lumina is set up the same way, I believe the upper motor mount has to come off to R&R the serpentine belt. Honest. A major PITA.

I have a '95 Lumina with the 3.1.......

Technically, it's not a fan belt....it a standard serpentine belt.....the fans are electric.

This is the easiest thing on the car to change.....seriously.

Use an adjustable wrench to fit onto the "notch" on the tensioner (the one in the picture is an aftermarket one....it looks at little different than OEM)......push it toward the rear of the car (you'll have to hold it there), while similtaneously removing the belt from the power sterring pulley.

To put the belt back on is the reverse. There should be a routing sticker near the PS pump pulley (on a piece of plastic) to show you how to route the new belt.

First you basically route everything except the powersteering pump. Then push the tensioner toward the back of the car and simulatneously slip the belt over the power steering pulley
