Removing Engine Varnish

I'm overhauling the head and block and curious if Paint Thinner is a suitable cleaner (low cost) that I can use to drench and clean all the parts to remove the varnish & sludge.

I'll be using an engine cleaning gun hooked up to an air supply plus a regular parts cleaning brush.

Any methods or tips you can suggest to clean these components would be appreicated.

drench in engine degreaser, rinse. then drench in gas, scrub with wire brush. hit it with more degreaser.

Lacquer thinner might be a better solvent than gasoline.

Paint thinner might slosh off any really loose stuff, but I doubt even with elbonian grease it will remove varnish.

Oh yeah, lacquer thinner is much stronger than paint thinner.

Thickster, when you say rinse after the first drenching, rinse with what?

Berryman B-12 Chemtool should remove the varnish. But it's not an inexpensive proposition, though.
