Remote mount, lay filter on sideways?

I was adding a remote coolant filter, and decided to lay it sideways. I did this on my truck as otherwise the bottom of the filter is slightly below the frame rail. And was thinking what if something hit it. So sideways is better protection. I recently put on a trans remote filter and it is straight up and down and slightly protrudes past the frame too. So was wondering about filter orientation, is there anything bad about that?

I dont plan on redoing the other trans filter mount. And the Weston SS step has a big bracket slightly protruding lower than this trans filter. It is also mounted right behind the front wheel well, so is close to the front tire.
