Reman Transmission

I will check one of them out. Don't think they are complete. Most of them all all models. Probably like a Haynes or even worse, a Chilton. Those can get you in a lot of trouble, especially the Chilton's. For $17 it's worth a gamble. Last printed by Ford manual for 3rd gen Escort and Tracer cost me $200 and was worth every penny. I searched for a Ford workshop manual (by Ford) after I bought the Fiesta. Only ones came from Russia and I thought I would get ripped off or hacked.

Don't think I unbolted the bottom motor mount when lowering the sub assembly.
You can go to Motorcraft Service (Google it) and pay for 24hrs access to the official Ford workshop manuals. In that 24hrs you can download as much of them as you like. Just do that.

Top off the printer ink/toner and get some nice heavyweight paper.

The suggestions above are good ones. If a gear is not fully engaging it can be any number of things. But also the shift fork. Some have plastic bushings and when they fall off, this is exactly what happens. Some just wear out due to quality issues.

Cable ends at transmission check out. Motor and transmission mounts good. I don't see how they would affect the cable as the cable housing are are secured to the transmission close to where the ends are. Maybe if the mounts were totally shot that might cause the cable to bind in the housing but then you would feel that through the shifter.

I'm thinking synchro. The gears are always in mesh. The synchro/dog clutch does synchronize input to selected gear but also is what "engages" the selected engaged gears. I had a car that would not stay in one gear. Synchro/dog clutch was bad. Replaced it and solved the problem.

This transmission has a 2 piece first and second synchro/dog clutch device. I suspect that's the culprit. Can't think why they would do it that way. The others are normal 1 piece.

BTW, If I stop then move the shifter first to second several times it does not pop out of first.

Without a vin number there are two options from Ford for that transmission. Need a vin to determine which one is correct but one transmission has a list price of 652 dollars and the other is 1930
Wanted to check using VIN before going to dealer parts dept.
Searched using online tools which only report Manual of Automatic, if that much:

https://vincheck.info/transmission-lookup-vin - no trans info

https://transend.us/content/complete-transmission-lookup/ - no info by VIN

https://www.bumper.com/car-advice/-what-transmission-do-i-have/ - No trans info

https://autoowa.com/how-to-identify-transmission-by-vin-number/ - Nothing

Anyway to research by VIN
VIN - 3FADP4EJ5DM225349

Plastic bushing fork bushing inside the transmission or a bushing in the shifter assy in the passenger compartment?

HVBoM in ford PTS says your vehicle has a 4.07 final drive ratio, CA6Z7002C is the correct transmission for your car

Thanks. That sounds about right. I will go tomorrow and see what I can drum up at the dealer. Don't have a garage right now so R&R the unit under a shade tree is a bit much. Probably cost more to have it done than trade in value, but you can't buy anything good for that much money. Had the car for 11 years now since brand new. There's a decent shop here that I will check out.

Any idea what markup on parts is for a shop? Back when I worked on cars a lot of stuff was about 100% on small items and around 30% on big ticket things.
