Refresh power steering & brake fluids?

If I use something like a medicine dropper to suction out as much fluid as possible from both the power steering & brake fluid reservoirs & I replace both with equal amounts of the proper fluids, will this achieve any positive results?

I would like to freshen up both the PS & brake fluids on my wife's '97 Expedition 4.6L V8, but I'm not experienced enough to do a complete brake bleed/flush/re-fill. Does anybody know what type PS & brake fluids are called for on this vehicle?

As much as I've learned about motor oil from this forum, I'm still a noob when it comes to things like bleeding brakes & such. I would appreciate you's guys' advice on this subject.

I think there is enough variation in power steering fluid that you may need to check the owner's manual on it. Some like to use ATF.

Nearly everything calls for DOT 3 brake fluid. I have always used Prestone Dot 4. Changing brake fluid is for fanatics and those with too little to do otherwise. It does not prevent wear and aging of the rubber parts. With timely, preventative rebuild/replacing wheel cylinders and calipers, The fluid is all replaced long before it causes any problems. I would leave the brake fluid alone and have the hydraulics replaced next lining change. Many people create more problems than they solve bleeding and flushing brake systems.
