Reduced additives are better for lubrication

Volume is volume, most stuff is soluble. The differentiation is so tiny that it is irrelevant.


I was poking around on the Pennzoil site when I stumbled across information that backs up the authors percentages. In Pennzoils motor oil fundamentals it states 75-85% base oil, 15-25% additives.

Because it's a flash file you need to print the screen so it copies to memory, then paste it in a graphics program like paint, then edit what part you want. Save it and upload it to some webspace like Image-Shack or whatever and then insert the link to the image here.

Yes, but do Additives reduce, or increase, Lubrication as it flows past all the parts?

HH- Some engine parts do not need additives to be oiled correctly.
But some do, like the cam and valvetrain - and timing chains if you have one.
High localized pressure needs boundary layer protection, like ZDDP or Moly.

They can do either.
