Redline vs Amsoil on these 2 cars

Hi, which of these oils would you recommend on these 2 cars in the US (Using Gas with 10% Ethanol):

For a 2006 BMW 325XI (E90):
Amsoil European Formula 5W-40
Redline 5W-30
Redline 5W-40

For a 2001 Mercedes CLK430 (W208):
Amsoil European Formula 5W-40
Redline 5W-40

I would seriously think about Mobil 1 0W-40 and Delvac 1 5W-40 .

Red Line 5W-30, it actually has a higher HTHS value than Amsoil 5W-40.

I would seriously consider only using BMW LL-01 approved oil only especially under warranty

All oils listed would provide reasonable and indistinguishable wear protection.

I would also add this to the list:

Amsoil DEO 5W-40

Is Mobil 1 a class III or class IV oil?

I looked at the Redline 5W-30 and it says it has a Vis @ 100°C, cSt of 10.6. Is that too thin for the E90 BMW? or it's OK? How important is the HTHS in an oil? I saw the Amsoil Signature Series 0W-30 (ACEA A5) to use in winter for the BMW but it has a HTHS rating of 3.2. I know that's a little low for this car, but how important is the HTHS in an oil?

What is the basis for your decision to limit your choice between the Redline and Amsoil oils you've suggested?

How hard do you drive your car? High Temperature High Shear (HTHS) rating becomes more important the harder you drive your car.

Taking into consideration ease of purchase and price, I would lean towards either of the Mobil 1 offerings that Steve S suggested.

I like these two because Amsoil is a class IV synthetic and Redline a class V. Also I've seen the Amsoil 4 ball wear testing making it much better than Mobil 1. I've heard many stories about Mobil 1 being a class III like Castrol, not really synthetic. Is this true?

Is the kinematic viscocity @ 100°C, cSt of 10.6 too thin for this BMW?

Ignore the 4-ball wear test. M1 is primarily a Group IV/V oil.
