Redline TBN -Deisel vs Gas Engine

This was brought up by qship1996 in another thread but it does raise an interesting question as to why RL seems to do much better in Deisel engines compared to gas. Only 3 UOA's to really go by in the same engine but the RL 5w-40 seems to be their best oil.

Bigger sump does not apply here.

When I change the oil on my '03 VW 1.9 TDI I get out maybe about 4 quarts and put in about 4.25 quarts with the filter change. Similar to other small 4 bangers.
