Hi everyone,

I have the opportunity to buy Redline 30w Race Oil for $5 a quart from a local race team. I plan to buy 1 case for track use, but I can buy a few cases if I want. Would it be wise to use this oil for daily driving use also? I would like to pick up 5 cases at this price and use it for my daily driver, but the lack of detergants is making me think twice. What do yu think?

no.

From their site.

our race oils contain very few detergents and are not recommended for street use

Redline is saying not to use them. Is there anyone more authoritative?

There may be some additive that would make it acceptable for street use, but it likely does not have capacity for handling long term crud, that is, it will leave that crud in the engine, rather than holding it for the drainout. An oil formulator could tell you what to do. Talk to the chemist, Dave, at Redline. I suppose you could use one qt of the racing oil in a fill of HDMO as HDMO has higher capacity for holding dirt and higher detergent. Anyway, I think so.

I would be tempted to buy it if I was sure I could doctor it for street use.
