Bought this heavy stuff on discount and put in a leaking diff with a toasted pinion bearing. Certainly didn’t help with the noise (nothing can) but it kept level... Just pulled it apart it and can see the oil has basically painted itself to the case and other components. Very interesting.

I have a noisy diff on my Defender. Bearings are a bit loose, but still fine. This stuff did quiet the howl.

I've also used it in leaky steering boxes, manual steering of course.

all the red deposits, they don’t scratch off easy it’s like a layer of paint
Are you certain that it's not actually paint?

Perhaps covered by grime before, so that you didn't see it? Grime that was subsequently cleaned off by the Redline oil, exposing the paint beneath?

It might just be...googled the jag d44 and most of them have a normal grey but found a couple pics with a dark red in the same area. could just be primer?

I was wondering if the “painted” look was gear oil or what. You’re absolutely right, I’ve seen good syn oils clean lots of black gunk from differentials. It was a common thing when old MB diesels we’re getting popular... the before and after pics were pretty compelling.
