Redline for Miata

Hi guys,

I have a 1993' 1.6L turbocharged miata that is both a daily street driven vehicle and a track toy. The ambient temperature in my country averages around 34C. The average oil temperature that my miata sees is around 100C on the streets and 130C on the track. Will I be able to use Redline 5w30? At 130C, the viscosity of the Redline 5w30 is 6.2 cSt. Is that too thin for safety? Anyone knows how low the oil viscosity can go before engine damage occurs?

Trying to find the best oil that gives me the most power while providing for adequate engine protection

I personally would use Mobil 1 R for this car or Synergyn 3w-30. Mobil 1 R can be purchased at www.avlube.com at a good price IMO. Any good synthetic would work in your car and I think a stable 30wt like the two above would be good choices. Amsoil 0w30 would be another choice. In fact I think M1R is ideal for all the little fast and furious teens out their.

Care to share your reasons for preferring the above over Redline? It's easy for me to get Redline here but difficult to get the M1R.

So for the kind of temperatures that I will be operating with, a 30wt will be fine? I'm more worried that the oil film will thin out too much when the oil temperature hits 130C and cause engine damage or extreme engine wear. Do you know how low a cSt an oil (ester based) can go safely?
